The Food Bank ministers to approximately 300 people each week. There is a nondiscriminatory policy. Anyone with a verifiable need may be helped. All clients register by completing an application form and are then interviewed by a counselor to assess their actual life needs. Counselors share Christ and pray with every client. Individuals who qualify receive a box of food which includes canned fruits, vegetables, soups, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, pasta, pinto beans, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna, lunch meat, sausage and bacon. They also receive breads, desserts and fresh vegetables and fruits.
The Furniture Bank is an emergency assistance ministry designed to help families get used furniture and appliances (linens, dishes, curtains and other household items as needed)without any cost to them. All items are donated and given to needy families who qualify. It is given on a first come first serve basis.
Secret Santa Collects new toys to be distributed to underprivileged children at Christmas. Parents fill out a registration form with their child’s information and are eligible if their family meets income and residency requirements. Children must be between the ages of 2 and 12 years of age. Area churches, schools and businesses help fill the list of needs.
Camp Hope - For Over 47 years
A camp program for underprivileged children who has completed 1st through 5th grade and under 12 years of age and under. Camp Hope is available for approximately 50 boys one week and 50 girls one week. Camp is held each year at Camp Tugaloo in Toccoa.
Back to School Project ministry provides a helping hand to underprivileged school aged children. Each child is given a $10 gift card to purchase a pair of shoes. The children are given socks and book bags. Hair cuts are given to help each child start off the school year feeling good about themselves. (TBD yearly)
2011 Back to School Project: Approx. 100 boys and girls participating in the weeks of Camp Hope recieved back to school book bag, camp hope supplies and a bible.
Good Samaritan Church
In November 2003, the Good Samaritan Church was established to reach out to un-churched food bank recipients. The church offers brief services on Wednesday mornings led by church and community Ministry Director, Mike Walston. An average of 60 attend the church.
